The Community Farm Store Staff:

Ann:

Hello everyone! My name is Ann, tall Ann with the heavy accent (german). I started working at the Farm Store summer 2006. You might find me in one of the many back rooms- preparing produce for display or in the walk in cooler. For warming up you can see me "run" through the aisles (catch me if you can!) towards the bulk bins and tea section, trying very hard to "catch up" with the high turnover of the products in the bins or on the shelf. It is quite amazing what flies out the store and I just filled it up!!! Cindy, we need to order some more! My background with "The Community Farm Store" goes back to the olden Glenora days, when I was just a normal shopper, turned box deliverer (I live in Chemainus and drove a couple boxes here and there), turned grower and supplier of organic heritage vegetable plants for a few years to the store. I still wonder how the Metro (metal shelf unit) with all the plants on it fitted in the store overnight! Choosing seeds from over 300 tomato varieties, or all the different melons, cucumbers, peppers or even the humble squash was quite a chore. I started a little nursery at our house, after all, that's what I apprenticed in -horticulture with specialization in seed production. Over time I decided it was time to move on, due to the realization that I needed to be amongst people. They talk- what plants don't do ( at least not on the same level). I am married to my husband Ed and we have two lively girls, Avi and Danae. Both of them keep us on our feet all day long. They shower us with paintings and gifts from the garden, requests playdates all the time and are my teachers for staying in the present moment. I tend to "think" all the time. Lately I decided to dust off my knowledge on herbs a little bit. Together with Fiona and "little" Anne, I enrolled in the course "The Art and Science of Herbology" held once monthly on Salt Spring Island. The rest of the month we are trying to finish our homework on time. I truly enjoy to have my nose dig through the pages of herbal books. I only wish I could remember everything I am learning. As if that is not enough, I also enrolled into Mara's Yoga classes. One feels sooo relaxed, stretched and calmed down after her
class. Without it I soon start to feel out of balance. The perfect wind- down after a busy week. And then I like to kick off my week with "African Dancing". As soon as the drums are playing, I need to move. I am still trying to copy my teacher with every move, but it turns out that my arms and legs think otherwise. Believe me, I giggle a lot when I'm dancing. The after affects are very sore muscles in all nonmentionable places. But I am back the next week. So, next time you are in the store, let me know if I can help you. As always, it is a great pleasure to work amongst such a great community.
