The
Community Farm Store Staff:
Fiona:

Fiona’s history with the Community Farm Store goes back to when
she and her family moved to Cowichan Valley from Quadra when they purchased a
lovely farm in Glenora. Turned out it was the biodynamic farm from whence the
Community Farm Store was born! She fondly recalls “shopping at the sweet little
store at the corner. It was a pleasant part of the day back then.” For the longest
time, you could find Fiona Saturday at the Farmer’s Market selling delicious honey
and in season cut flowers and “overflow” from their rather large organic kitchen
garden. Fiona’s knowledge of every vegetable, herb, flower and fruit is astounding!
It seems to us that she knows everything, every variety of every plant, how
to grow them, how to store them, how to prepare them, and how to serve them!
She is truly a wealth of knowledge and expertise. When Fiona is not ordering produce,
receiving pallets, hauling and labeling boxes here at the store she is at
home raising three children, tending the organic gardens, fruit trees, beehives,
sheep, ducks and even donkeys. Fiona recently completed a ten month herbal
course in Salt Spring. We look forward to her regular days with us as she always has some great story about a chicken living in the
house, donkey’s and sheep being born, duck’s getting into the garden and even some pretty funny dog stories
(so how did the dog get on the roof?) We feel very fortunate that Fiona continues to somehow squeeze
us (CFS) into her busy and “eventful” life. Of course, the way Fiona sees it, it’s not really like work at all:
“Working at the farm store is enjoyable -- great people, good energy and organic food -- all things I believe
in -- it’s almost like a day off!”.
